Savannah Yesod Leadership Initiative -- Cohort 1 - 2018

Matthew Allan

Matthew Allan is from New Jersey and has lived in Savannah for 12 years. He is a real estate agent and developer. He is participating in Yesod because it is an opportunity to apply a Jewish perspective to leadership training, as well as to help cultivate a new generation of leadership.

Michelle Allan

Michelle Allan is from Birmingham, Alabama and has lived in Savannah for almost 10 years.  She is a Shalom School Teacher and Prevention Education Specialist at the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire. She is participating in Yesod because, she believes in responsibility to the Jewish Community.  Doing so in an effective and meaningful way requires strong leadership skills. “I want to serve as an example to my children that when you can give back, you should, but more importantly I’ve watched the Savannah Jewish Community change and thrive over the past 10 years here. I am excited to be part of the future.” She has two fantastic kids, Lila & Rafi, an amazing husband Matthew and 5 rescue animals.  Michelle and Matthew met at a Young Jewish Savannah event at the JEA.

Kasey Berman

Kasey Berman is from Savannah and has lived in Savannah for over 40 years.  She is a Pediatrician at Be Pediatrics.  She is participating in Yesod because she wants to learn how she can better serve the Savannah Jewish Community & the JEA.  She is also a soccer & dance mom extradonaire and Quality Control Supervisor for her husband’s restaurants.

Robyn Carroll

Robyn Carroll is from all over (Capetown, Philadelphia, Potomac and Atlanta) and has lived in Savannah for 12 years.  She is a community volunteer.  She is participating in Yesod because she wants to meet other young people interested in community leadership.  She has two great boys aged 6 & 3 and a supportive husband who helps her in her volunteer efforts including her reacent installation as JEA President.


David Eichholz

David Eichholz is from Savannah and has lived in Savannah his whole life (life except college & graduate school).  He is a lawyer at the Eichholz Law Firm.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to learn about leadership & Jewish Leadership and be able to help the local community & abroad as best as he is able to. He is excited to open a new office for nearly 100 employees, be involved in the Jewish Community and wants to continue growing and helping in this local community most of all.

Adam Fins

Adams Fins is from Worcester, Massachusetts and has lived in Savannah for 7 ½ years.  He is a vice president at Friedman’s Art Store. He is participating in Yesod because he wants to do his part to maintain, improve and perpetuate the Savannah Jewish Community.

Lauren Fins

Lauren Fins is from Savannah, GA and has lived in Savannah for 26 years. She grew up in Savannah and left for 10 years, and has been back since 2010.  She is a Dog Trainer at Fins Animal Training. She is participating in Yesod because she wants to be able to give back to the community.

Seth Grenald

Seth Grenald is from Philadelphia and has lived in Savannah for 5 years. He is a Software Engineer at Gulfstream.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to become active in the Jewish Community. He is also an amateur photographer & self proclaimed general science nerd.

Stuart Halpern

Stuart Halpern is from Mandeville, Louisiana and has lived in Savannah for 4 years. He is an attorney at Weiner, Shearouse, Weitz, Greenberg & Shawe, LLP.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to meet people in the Jewish Community and would like to be involved in the Jewish Community.

Steven Hollander

Steven Hollander is from Savannah and has lived in Savannah for most of his life. He is an International Freight Manager at John S. James Co.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to be more involved in the Jewish Community.  He has 3 kids and wants them to be more involved in the Savannah Jewish Community.

Jonathan Javetz

Jonathan Javetz is from Savannah and has lived in Savannah for a year after living in Atlanta for 15 years. He is a real estate agent, property manager and contractor at Realty Resources Corporation and Low Country Property Management.  He is participating in Yesod because he is looking for an opportunity to reconnect with the Jewish Community.

Allison Konter

Allison Konter is from Wilmington, NC and has lived in Savannah for 11 years.  She is a stay at home mom and volunteer.  When asked why she was participating in Yesod, she said, “I value the Jewish community and its roll on Savannah.  I want to help keep our community strong, so that it continues to be a foundational element in my children’s lives.” Prior to staying home, she was a teacher. In this role, she served as teacher of the year for Savannah-Chatham County and was a finalist for GA Teacher of the Year.

Steven Richman

Steven Richman is from Columbus, Georgia and has lived in Savannah for 10 years. He is a Project Engineer at Gulfstream.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to continue to grow and develop as a leader through the lens of Judaism. He loves spending time with wife Jamie, and son Micah. “I look forward to further engaging my family in the Jewish community.”

Mark Schwartz

Mark Schwartz is from Nashville, TN and has lived in Savannah for 2 ½ years.  He works for RCF Technologies Inc.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to build a more dynamic Jewish Savannah.

Josh Shear

Josh Shear is from Springfield, Massachusetts and has lived in Savannah for 3 ½ years.  He is a senior news producer at Advance Local.  He is participating in Yesod because he is interested in learning new approaches to leadership and getting involved in the Jewish Community in a way he can help shape its future. Josh is a writer, podcaster and cofounder of Better Human hood which seeks to help improve the world by making people better at being people. He is a freemason, a doggy daddy and has the best wife in the whole darn world.

Naomi Silva

Naomi Silva is from El Paso, Texas and has lived in Savannah for almost 3 years. She is a pediatric radiologist.  She is participating in Yesod because she wants to empower the Jewish Community to get involved locally at every level, education, healthcare, social outreach and faith.  She is passionate about 19th century literature, 20th century visual art, Spanish dance, volunteering & throwing playmates.

Stephanie Sweeney

Stephanie Sweeney is from Atlanta and has lived in Savannah on and off since 2009.  She is a Dentist and owns Savannah Dental.  Besides owning her own business she is involved in other leadership roles at the Savannah Jewish Federation and Oatland Island.  She is active in the Historic Savannah Foundation, 13th Colony, Savannah Dental Society and William Jay Society, just to name a few. In her spare time, Dr. Sweeney is typically at the beach surfing or kiteboarding or at the Savannah Gold Club attempting to improve her golf game.

Jason Tirey

Jason Tirey is from Savannah, GA and has lived in Savannah for 29 years. He is a merchandiser at National Distributing Co.  He is participating in Yesod because he wants to gain different perspective on leadership and what our community needs. As well as using new leadership practices in his professional career.

Tara Tirey

Tara Tirey is from Columbus, Geogia and has lived in Savannah for 9 years. She is an Early Childhood Educator at the Jewish Educational Alliance Preschool Savannah.  She is participating in Yesod because she wants to be a positive role model to future generations and to help promote, maintain and enable new community programs for the growing needs of our Jewish Community.  Tara and her husband Jason met through Young Jewish Savannah.  She add, “This community has helped shape my life and future. I am fortunate to be able to give back to the all of the wonderful opportunities it has brought me.”

Tova Tolman

Tova Tolman is from Pennsylvania & New York City and has lived in Savannah for 1 year.  She works in Educational Counseling at Bright Horizons.  “I am participating in Yesod because in such a short time I’ve be welcomed & included so completely into this community. I’m excited to a part of something that will help me give back in a more meaningful, effective and purposeful way.”  She is still discovering this great town, and is always up for suggestions of a great place to run or your favorite spot to get a drink outdoors. She has two sassy & energetic young kids (ages 3 & 5) that keep her busy and engaged in all things in the Savannah Jewish Community.
