Presented by the Savannah Jewish Federation, the 2026 Sherry Dolgoff Yom HaShoah Art & Writing Contest honors the legacy of Sherry Dolgoff and her lifelong commitment to education and advocacy against intolerance, xenophobia, hate, and bias. The contest invites Savannah-area students in grades 6–12 to reflect on the lessons of the Holocaust through creative expression.

The theme of the 2026 contest is:
Unbroken: Resilience & Identity

Students may submit one original work in one of the following formats: essay, poetry, short story, comic book, film/video, podcast/social media, musical composition, or visual art (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, etc.).

Names cannot be visible on the submissions. Written entries should not exceed 1,000 words, and film or music entries must be no longer than 5 minutes. Charcoal, chalk, and pastel works require fixatives. All entries must include a completed cover letter.

Submissions may be sent by mail or hand delivery to Savannah Jewish Federation, 5111 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31405, or by email to michelle@savj.org.

Winners will be announced at the Savannah Community Yom HaShoah Commemoration on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 3:00pm in the JEA Large Auditorium.

A panel of judges will evaluate each entry on content, originality and quality of expression. Winning entries receive cash prizes, will be reprinted in Savannah Jewish Life magazine, and all submitted artwork will be displayed throughout April in the JEA’s Montag Art Gallery.

Each submission must include a completed cover letter with student, parent/guardian, and teacher information, an artist’s statement (50–200 words), and parent/guardian approval for publication.
