Camp Barney Medintz to Host Info Session and Reception in Savannah

(SAVANNAH, GA) – Camp Barney Medintz (Camp Barney), summer resident camp of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, will present its annual new musical multi-image production and dessert reception in Savannah on Sunday, December 4th, at the Savannah Jewish Educational Alliance, at 1:00 pm. Jim Mittenthal, Director, and Susan Berger, Associate Director, will meet with new and returning families, answer questions pertaining to the 2017 summer camp season, and provide applications for registration.

Located in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains, Camp Barney is situated on 540 wooded acres surrounding two lakes, just 75 miles northeast of Atlanta. According to Mr. Mittenthal, the setting facilitates “every imaginable activity”, including water skiing, wake boarding, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, leaping off the “Blob” or soaring down the 180-foot “Hurricane” water slide, horseback riding, zip lining, whitewater rafting, tennis, all land/court sports, theatre, crafts, music, Israeli culture, dance, film studio, cooking classes, mountain biking, climbing the adjacent Appalachian Trail and a series of high-adventure rock climbing, rappelling and ropes courses. Specific age groups will also enjoy fencing, karate, ceramics and scuba diving!

Camp Barney, celebrating its 55th summer season, has created “a unique community that is all about adventure and self-discovery, exhilarating activities and exciting events, being in a strong culturally Jewish environment with really great friends, all under the supervision of an outstanding group of mature, talented, conscientious, and enthusiastic staff,” said Mr. Mittenthal.

Camp Barney annually develops new construction projects to improve its spectacular mountain facility. Recent additions include a major cultural and performing arts complex, an exciting new sports complex, an expansive camper kitchen, the new health center, a brand new second swimming pool with double water slides, and the construction of many brand new cabins which will be completed before campers arrive in 2017!

Registration is open for new and returning campers.
