Savannah Jewish Federation
Mission and History
Charged with raising, collecting and distributing funds, the Federation seeks to "advance the
welfare of the total Jewish community". The Federation strongly supports Israel and world Jewry.
Additionally, the organization strives to "preserve the civil, political, economic and religious
rights of all Jews" to develop and articulate, intelligent and constructive Jewish community and
to promote mutual understanding with the community at-large.
Where We Were
Ten years ago, world Jewry was focused on the successful
absorption of Ethiopian Jewry in Israel. Today, the two babies born on the plane in 1991 are 10
years old and in the third grade in Israel. Twenty-five years ago, we set out to rescue and
resettle Soviet Refuseniks in Israel. Today, noted refuseniks, Natan Sharansky and Yuli Edelstein
are members of the Knesset. Forty years ago, 800,000 Sephardic Jews were living in tents in
Israel; fifty-five years ago, Israel was on the verge of Statehood and world Jewry was focused on
survivors of the Holocaust. Ninety years ago, Jews were raising funds to distribute in Palestine
to the Jewish community suffering from drought.
Only With Your Help
Our sincere thanks go to everyone in our community
whose financial commitment to the annual campaign allows us to maintain programs and services for
Jews in Savannah and surrounding areas and to do our fair share to help Jews in need around the
world. We also thank those who gave above and beyond to the Israel Emergency Campaign in response
to the crisis in Israel. "Oseh Shalom Bim'ro'mav, Hu Ya'aseh Shalom Aleinu, V'al Kol Yisrael.
May G-d who sits on high grant peace on us and on all Israel."
And if not now, when?
